And if that weren’t enough, the President has a foreign-sounding name and even lived abroad during his childhood. Now if that had been in Europe, people’s buttons would be less pushed. But these were “furrin” countries, in Africa and Indonesia, where foreign religions other than Christianity are the norm..
So this pushes the buttons of all those Americans with staunchly Nationalistic and xenophobic leanings.
And now add to that volatile mix the fact that President Obama talks of change and the buttons get pushed all over the place.
What is going on is that people’s unconscious fears are being activated, because we have a black president who grew up in countries not predominantly Christian talking about change — and people are suddenly afraid that foreigners are taking the country over and that the devil has Trojan-Horsed his way into American society and government — and that the whole country is going to hell in a hand-basket.
This is the same type of fear that got activated in the 50s during the McCarthy era — and it is the same type of fear-mongering that was promoted then. Then it was the fear of Communists infiltrating the U. S. This time it is the extreme right-wingers who are manipulating people’s fears about foreigners, Muslims, and terrorism and fomenting discord and violence.
Why am I writing this? Because to be able to see clearly what is going on teaches us something and allows us to know how to deal with it — and also because in seeing things clearly we can be the ones who refuse to have our buttons pushed and can teach others.
We are living in a time of change, especially a change in consciousness. As more people shift awareness, an unfortunate, but perhaps unavoidable, polarization results from the old thinking vs. the new and between those who choose to examine and deal with their old unconscious stuff and those who don’t and are still controlled by their inner demons — and between those who see themselves as part of a higher level of connection between and among everyone and those who see themselves as different from and superior to others. And also between those who are becoming more Heart-Centered and Heart Open and those who are ruled more by their negative emotions and judgmentalism.
It’s important that we — those who are shifting and becoming self-aware — continue in our process. Self-awareness, clarity, and higher awareness coupled with Heart-Centeredness is truly the future.

I’ve been quite surprised by all that I have learned about the pervasiveness of toxic chemicals everywhere in our world these days — in our food, air, water, toiletries, cosmetics, home furnishings, and even in our clothing. And what’s worse is that in the United States a large number of these lethal time bombs are not regulated.
On this week’s show on “Vibrant Living” I’ll be discussing this topic with Mark Schapiro, author of Exposed — The Toxic Chemistry of Everyday Products and What’s at Stake for American Power. Really eye-opening!

Bullying can be a terrible problem, especially for the victim. I personally will admit that I have very little compassion for bullies because to me they completely lack compassion and make other people miserable.
This issue of bullying came up for me recently when I read Barbara Coloroso’s book, The Bully, The Bullied, and The Bystander. In fact, I had an a-ha in reading her book — that I myself had been bullied while growing up.
Ms. Coloroso specializes in teaching others how to prevent bullying, and you can hear my interview with her this week on “Vibrant Living.” This is important information!

I’m continually amazed by some of the research findings from the past several years. Most recently, this involved new research indicating that a genetic mutation that occurred hundreds of years ago in European cattle is causing or helping to cause some auto-immune diseases, most notably Type I Diabetes.

Interesting synchronicity: I finalized this week’s “Vibrant Living” show about A Buffalo in the House on the 4th of July, the day that we in America celebrate our Independence. The 4th of July is obviously a historical day of celebration. And, ironically, the story of Charley, the buffalo, also evokes American history — that of the White settlers and the United States slaughtering the American bison in an ongoing effort to exterminate the American Indians, an act of American genocide. Quite a synchronicity!
This sad episode in the history of United States shows the downside of associating ourselves with just one group or nationality or race or creed, rather than taking the larger identity — that of beings who inhabit the same planet or even universe.
As it turns out, the slaughter of the buffalo continues today, outside of Yellowstone National Park. You might want to listen to this week’s show to learn more: go to my page on “Vibrant Living.”

So much sad news about celebrities in the past week. It reminds us — once again — that no one is immune from the human condition and human frailties. Becoming “rich and famous” continues to be a trap for many people: It can lead one to lose a sense of perspective about one’s role in the greater picture. In other words, one’s ego can become inflated and lead a celebrity to feel that they’re infallible and apart from the human condition. Not so!
At some point, whether through illness or addiction or other emotional issues, that bubble bursts.
This is a reminder to us, as well, to tend to our own fires and maintain a sense of perspective and humility.

I’m still reeling and thinking about Genetically Modified Foods and their range of health dangers after my two-part show with Jeffrey Smith. What’s sad is that most people are completely unaware of this issue and how the foods they are eating could be endangering their health and the environment.
I’m hoping that people listening to the show will tell others about it. It’s amazing to me that food producers are not required to state that their products contain Genetically Modified ingredients.

Last Fall, a client asked me about the economy. When I tuned into the question, I got dark clouds at the time, but that in the Spring there would be “pinpoints of light.” I also got that the economy would start to pick up somewhere between late May and late June.
How intrigued I was today to hear that Obama’s administration is now openly talking about “glimmers of hope” about the economy! Those “glimmers of hope” I feel are the “pinpoints of light” I got that would become evident this Spring.
We never know when we get information how it will manifest. However, I’m feeling more and more encouraged that my information was correct — and that the economy will indeed be starting to pick up before this summer.

I just read yesterday that some economy experts feel that the economic recovery will start in the next three or four months. Just what I’m getting!
